Down the TBR Rabbit Hole #14

Down The TBR Hole is a meme from Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when youre scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well thats going to change!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Saturday Spotlight: Pivot by L.C. Barlow

This week I have a bit something different for you.  I’m participating in a blog tour put together by Meg Eden.  If you’re looking for a creepy fall/Halloween read, why not give Pivot a try?  I haven’t read it personally, but it looks really interesting.  And totally matches the season!  I’m hoping to read it before we move into winter.  Also, check out the next post in the tour, Tehben, tomorrow for a giveaway!  Everyone loves a good giveaway, right?  Continue reading to learn more about the author and book!

Description: L.C. Barlow’s paranormal horror novel PIVOT (74,000 words) follows Jack Harper, adopted daughter of a cult leader and an assassin, who breaks free from her intended role in life, after receiving an incredible power from a supernatural creature in the basement of her father’s home. Fans of Barry Lyga’s I Hunt Killers and Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl will love this story of a killer turned rescuer, who escapes her harrowing environment and liberates others along the way… including those Cyrus has already killed. Publisher’s Weekly says: “Barlow’s gorgeous writing will easily propel readers through the rest of the series.”

Late September Book Mail + #OTSPSecretSister

I picked up some lovely goodies in late September that I must share!  Great big thanks to Ace Books for providing this lovely finished copy of The Library of the Unwritten by A.J. Hackwith.  As soon as I finish The Never Tilting World, this is my next read!  I made an Amazon purchase when the third How to Train Your Dragon movie crept down in price and also found a fun-looking (and huge tome) in Bonnie L. Price’s Fateseal, which sounds marvelous.  I also received my Patreon backer pin from Carla Morrow featuring a gorgeous luna moth dragon fly!

This was my first package from the new Secret Sister round.  It contained two lovely books that retell one of my favorite fairy tales: East of the Sun, West of the Moon.  I’d actually read East when I was younger but with the new sequel, I’m excited to read it again.  And I’ve heard good things about Echo North, so here’s hoping I get to them both soon!

Blog Tour: Master of the Phantom Isle by Brandon Mull

Master of the Phantom Isle (Dragonwatch, #3)

Hardcover, 496 pages
Published October 1st 2019 by Shadow Mountain

Brandon Mull has a delightfully wicked way of wrapping up a story by introducing what the next story arc is going to be or where it will happen.  Then follows it up with a book that picks up right where the previous one left off.  This is great!  For anyone who has all the books and binge them one after the other.  But incredibly frustrating for those of us who read them before the next book releases!!

That being said, this third installment is marvelous!  We learn more about what happened to Seth at the end of book two as well as Bracken’s whereabouts.  Kendra does a fantastic job of coping with the loss of her brother while trying to maintain her responsibilities.  We get to see Warren and Vanessa again.  And my favorite, the Fairy Queen, makes an appearance 🙂

If I say too much more, I’ll give away spoilers for either this book or the previous ones.  Hopefully you’ve already read them, but here are links to my reviews if you want to check those out.

Wrath of the Dragon King

Cursed by the Key of Forgetting, Seth has lost all memory of his past—his relationships, his experiences, and who he really is. For now he will align with his new mentor, Ronodin, the dark unicorn, who takes him to the Phantom Isle, the secret gateway to the Under Realm. Though Seth is not formally a prisoner, Ronodin wants to use him and his shadow charmer powers for his own dark ends.

Kendra is frantic to find her missing brother, but the quest will take her and her companions, including Warren, Tanu, and Vanessa, far from Wyrmroost to Crescent Lagoon—a recently fallen dragon sanctuary made up of many islands and underwater domains. Its caretaker has regained a foothold on one of the islands. If Kendra and her friends can save that sanctuary, they might uncover the answers they need to rescue Seth.

With each sanctuary the dragons overthrow, Celebrant, the Dragon King, comes closer to the dawn of a new Age of Dragons. With the forces of darkness on the march, can Kendra and her allies gather enough power to win the epic dragon war?

Once again, we have a month jam-packed with so many amazing SFF releases across the ages!  I’ve already had a chance to read a few of these, so you can find my reviews of Smarter Than a Monster up now and Master of the Phantom Isle should go live very soon!  I’m working on The Never Tilting World right now for review and have a review copy of The Library of the Unwritten to read next!  Hopefully, I’ll be able to squeeze one or two more into my reading schedule this month as well 🙂
