What to Read: May 2021 – Wyrd and Wonder

Well, April showers brought May sunburn as I ventured outside to work in the yard last Saturday without even thinking about sunscreen and now I look lobster-adjacent. I am pretty happy with how much I was able to read last month though between audiobooks and ebooks! I’m not sure how this month will go for reading but I’m hoping to binge some series that I started last month and of course they are all fantasy titles, which is perfect for Wyrd & Wonder month. If you haven’t heard about it, check it out here. I’m hoping to share plenty of reviews and fun lists this month if I can find the motivation, so keep an eye out 🙂

For Review:

Legend of the Dragon Slayer: The Origin Story of DragonwatchBlack Water SisterTokyo Ever After

Legend of the Dragon Slayer by Brandon Mull is not part of the Dragonwatch series but is more of a prequel/origin story, and I received an e-arc from Shadow Mountain. I reached out and requested an arc of Zen Cho‘s newest release, Black Water Sister, from Ace Books because it sounds like a fascinating blend of culture and sapphic fantasy. Technically, Tokyo Ever After by Emiko Jean is not fantasy per se, but who hasn’t fantasized about being a secret princess. Thanks to Libro.fm’s ALC program and Flatiron Books for providing an audiobook to review.

The Blacktongue Thief (Blacktongue, #1)The Immortal Game

Another May ALC from Libro.fm and Tor Books is Christopher Buehlman’s The Blacktongue Thief, which I had just added to my TBR last month after a friend posted about it on Twitter. Swoon Reads is releasing The Immortal Game by Talia Rothschild & A.C. Harvey, and I’m excited to read this mythology-inspired competition story as an e-arc.

Other Exciting May Releases:

The Shadow in the GlassBlade of Secrets (Bladesmith, #1)A Master of DjinnSon of the Storm (The Nameless Republic, #1)The Edge of Strange Hollow
